Modern Extinctions

An exhibition of digitally enhanced drawings exploring our emotional relationship with obsolete technology.

Created for a solo exhibition at Kick Gallery, Modern Extinctions reimagines everyday objects—from Game Boys and VHS camcorders to early computers and analogue cameras—as carefully observed portraits. Each piece began as a hand drawing before being digitally coloured and refined, blending traditional illustration with graphic design techniques to create images that feel both nostalgic and archival.

Long before retro technology became fashionable, the series examined how rapidly the tools that once defined our lives become forgotten artefacts. Rather than celebrating the latest innovation, Modern Extinctions preserves the beauty and cultural significance of the devices that shaped a generation of creators, gamers and filmmakers.

Looking back, the exhibition marked an early exploration of themes that continue to influence my work today: nostalgia, analogue media, obsolete technology and the intersection of handcrafted and digital processes.
